Philly World TeamTennis Squad To Play Home Matches At Drexel

The World TeamTennis Philadelphia Freedoms are switching to a new venue this season and will "play their home matches" at Drexel Univ.'s Daskalakis Athletic Center, according to John George of the PHILADELPHIA BUSINESS JOURNAL. The new venue is a 2,509-seat multi-purpose arena that is home to multiple Drexel sports teams. Drexel AD Eric Zillmer said, "It will be perfect for the Freedoms. The sight lines are great for tennis. All the seats are close to the action." The Freedoms, owned by WTT co-Founder Billie Jean King, have played at a "variety of sites during the past two decades." Freedoms President Barbara Perry noted that the Daskalakis Athletic Center has "private suites and ample space for hosting events to accompany the tennis matches, such as special speakers and instructional clinics, so game days can become events." The team already is discussing an event to "highlight the Billie Jean King Barbie doll recently unveiled by Mattel as part of its 'Inspiring Women' series" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 2/26).
