Anaheim Won’t Receive Payments From Honda Center Naming Rights

The City of Anaheim “does not need to sign off” on the 10-year naming-rights extension Honda signed with the Anaheim Arena Management for the Ducks’ facility, and the city will “not receive any payments” relating to the deal, according to Heather McRea of the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER. City of Anaheim Chief Communications Officer Mike Lyster in an email noted that the revenue generated by the facility can "go toward building improvements.” He added, “Advertising is part of Anaheim Arena Management’s responsibility for operational finances for Honda Center. The money from this agreement goes to offset the cost of operating the arena.” McRea notes under an ‘18 update to the city’s agreement with Anaheim Arena Management, the city will “receive half of any revenue” after $6M annually, “calculated after investments in improvements to the facility.” Previously, the “revenue sharing was 20%” after the $12M mark. Anaheim Arena Management officials have “declined to say what the naming rights deal is worth.” The sponsorship that now runs through ‘31 “includes the Honda signs around the arena, the freeway marquee, a giant rooftop label and car displays at two corners outside of the arena" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 2/26).
