Broncos Reshaping Analytics Department After Tanney Departure

The Broncos and Dir of Football Analytics Mitch Tanney have "mutually decided to part ways," according to sources cited by Mike Klis of Denver-based KUSA-NBC. Tanney had been the Broncos' "analytics guru the past five seasons," and his job "entailed providing objective research and analysis that influence football decisions for personnel executives." Tanney, who "helped build the Broncos' analytics department into among the league's best, leaves a month after Elway replaced" Dir of Football Administration Mike Sullivan, who was the team's salary cap manager and contract negotiator, with former CAA agent Rich Hurtado. A source said that the Broncos are "expected to reshape" their analytics department from within to "replace the well-regarded Tanney." Broncos Lead Football Analyst Scott Flaska, who had been Tanney's top assistant, "could have an increased role." Flaska is "respected in the analytics community, in particular among other NFL teams." The Broncos' analytics department also "employs data scientist Emily Kuehler" (9NEWS.com, 2/24).
