Syracuse Men's Basketball To Lead NCAA Attendance Average Again

Syracuse's final home game against UNC is expected to attract between 28,000-30,000 fans GETTY IMAGES

The Syracuse men's basketball team is "struggling on court," but the school already has "clinched the NCAA's attendance title," according to Mike Waters of the Syracuse POST-STANDARD. This will be the "second year in a row" that the school will lead the country in men's basketball attendance. Last weekend, a crowd of 26,661 was at the Carrier Dome to watch Syracuse beat Georgia Tech, bringing the school's "average attendance for its 17 home games this season to 21,256 per game." Syracuse will play its final home game of this season Saturday against North Carolina. The game is "expected to attract between 28,000 and 30,000 fans." Syracuse has an "insurmountable attendance lead" over Kentucky, which is currently second in the nation this season with an average of 20,114. Should the game against North Carolina "draw a crowd of 30,000, Syracuse's average attendance would jump to 21,741." That would "fall just short of Syracuse's attendance average last year of 21,992." Overall, this will be the 16th time Syracuse has led the nation in attendance since the opening of the Carrier Dome in '80 (Syracuse POST-STANDARD, 2/25).
