NWSL Sky Blue FC Leading Charge For Women In Leadership Roles

NWSL club Sky Blue FC is the "only club in the nine-team league to be run by a trifecta of women in leadership," with head coach Freya Coombe, GM Alyse LaHue and co-Owner & Chair Tammy Murphy, according to Melanie Anzidei of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. Lahue said the club is "accomplishing something that really hasn’t been done in this league before, in having high-profile women across every department, and that really goes well into our front office." She added, “If we look at communications and operations and ticket sales, we have women leading all these departments, and I think it’s a story that should be seen more often.” Anzidei notes by "having women in leadership roles, clubs are bringing in decision-makers who can be more attuned to issues of diversity." LaHue is one of only two female GMs in the NWSL. She also is the first woman in league history to serve in that role in both the NWSL and the league's predecessor, Women’s Professional Soccer. LaHue: “I do believe if there’s more women like me in charge, we’re going to be more likely to have more women coaches because it’s something that I think we’re really cognizant of as women. When you’re one of the only women at the table, you start to look around and go, ‘Hey, I think there’s some people missing from the conversation here’” (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 2/24).
