LSU, FSU Could Earn $5.1M Each In Neutral Site Football Game

LSU and FSU will each receive $5.1M if they "sell their full allotment of 30,000 tickets" to the first football matchup of a two-game series taking place in September '22 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, according to Brooks Kubena of the Baton Rouge ADVOCATE. The second game of the series is set for September '23 at Camping World Stadium. The series marks the "first major football scheduling contract" under LSU AD Scott Woodward, who joined the school in April '19 after his predecessor, Joe Alleva, made a "commitment to scheduling home-and-home games in response to fan blowback that followed nearly a decade of neutral-site games." However, reservations about another neutral-site game popping up on LSU and FSU's schedules are "somewhat solved by the games being played in each team's home state." LSU received $4.75M for its '18 game against Miami, a sum that, like the $5.1M it will receive for the '22 game against FSU, will "substantially bolster the school's athletic budget." The game contract alone "could pay off an entire year's worth of expenses in a sport like women's basketball," which had total operating expenses of about $4.3M in FY '19 (Baton Rouge ADVOCATE, 2/12).
