Nevada Sportsbooks See Near-Record Wagers For Super Bowl LIV

Nevada sportsbooks won $18.7M off $154.6M in "bets on Super Bowl LIV," both marking "near-records for Nevada's bookmakers," according to David Purdum of ESPN.com. The $18.7M win is behind only the $19.6M "won on Super Bowl XLVIII" between the Seahawks and Broncos, and the $154.6M bet is just behind the record $158.5M that was "wagered on Super Bowl LII" between the Eagles and Patriots. Meanwhile, New Jersey sportsbooks reported a $4.2M net loss on the $54.2M bet on the Super Bowl, although some of that loss can be "attributed to promotions offered by Garden State bookmakers." Pennsylvania sportsbooks reported a $3.3M loss on the $30.6M bet on the Super Bowl. FanDuel President & COO Kip Levin said that in-play wagering was a "big factor in the book's Super Bowl loss in New Jersey." He added, "We have a lot of years to go before revenue, instead of customer acquisition, is the primary metric for success on days like Super Bowl Sunday." Purdum noted Rhode Island sportsbooks "fared better," winning $804,000 off $5.5M bet on the Super Bowl (ESPN.com, 2/4). The Nevada totals were by far the "highest in the nation, where 14 states now offer legal sports betting" (AP, 2/4).
