San Diego State's Basketball Success Brings In Added Revenue

San Diego State Exec Associate AD/External Relations Steve Schnall said that the last three men's basketball games at Viejas Arena have "sold out -- a total of 12,414 tickets per game," according to Mariel Concepcion of San Diego-based KNSD-NBC. SDSU is currently 23-0 and ranked No. 4 in the AP Top 25. SDSU Senior Associate AD/Business Administration Chuck Lang said that in total, the "per game revenue" for 17 games this season is $165,000. That is almost $3M in "revenue just from ticket sales." SDSU Concessions GM Brian Wynne said that the concessions revenue at men's basketball games is "up 47.1% from last year." SDSU Dir of Campus Stores & Licensing Kathy Brown said that merchandise sales at the university-located Aztec Shops are "up 240% this year compared to last year." She added, "Last year, there was one less game to date, but our large percentage increase (this year) is due to the basketball team's success and the sold out arena." On the sponsorship end, SDSU Sports Properties VP & GM Duke Little said that inquiries have "picked up and will positively impact" the '20-21 sales cycle (NBCSANDIEGO.com, 1/31).
