Jets LB BRANDON COPELAND won the NFLPA's annual Alan Page Community Award Thursday for his "work to help underprivileged children." Copeland "organized a Christmas-time shopping spree for hundreds of kids in need in New Jersey" and "rounded up players across the NFL to do the same." Copeland "received a $100,000 donation for his charity of choice upon receiving the NFLPA's highest honor" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/31).

NAMES: Predators President & CEO SEAN HENRY announced the "$1 Million in One Month" campaign to "help fund 500 need-based and merit-based scholarships for students" at Tennessee State. Henry Said that the campaign, which begins Saturday, "will be the first of many initiatives between the Predators and TSU" (Nashville TENNESSEAN)... Photo researcher and Florentine Films co-producer TIM MCALEER is digging through "old archives, dusty boxes and musty basements in several locations around Louisville" to find photos for "ALI," the upcoming KEN BURNS, SARAH BURNS and DAVID MCMAHON documentary on the life of MUHAMMAD ALI (Louisville COURIER JOURNAL, 1/31)....Daytona Supercross champion RICKY CARMICHAEL will "serve as an Honorary Race Official" for the 62nd Daytona 500 on Feb. 16. Carmichael will be "introduced at the drivers’ meeting, participate in pre-race ceremonies, ride in one of the parade cars and take part in question-and-answer sessions in fan hospitality areas and the Speedway Fanzone" (Dayona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 1/31).
