Jennifer Lopez and Shakira said that their upcoming Super Bowl halftime show will "pay homage to Latin culture, promising a joint performance that has an empowering message and also one that 'spreads love,'" according to Mesfin Fekadu of the AP. This will be the first halftime show to be "orchestrated under the leadership of Jay-Z and Roc Nation thanks to their new entertainment partnership with the NFL" (AP, 1/30). Lopez said of Sunday's performance, "It's very Shakira, and it's very Jennifer. That's what you're going to get. It's a lot of energy, very entertaining. There's heartfelt moments. We run the gamut. It's packed with a lot of awesome moments." Shakira added the show will be "different but complementary" (MIAMI HERALD, 1/31). ESPN.com's Brooke Pryor wrote for Lopez and Shakira, the "opportunity to perform is especially meaningful because women have prominent roles in the ownership groups" for both the Chiefs and 49ers. Lopez said, "Two Latinas, doing this in this country at this time, it's just very empowering for us" (ESPN.com, 1/30).
