Verizon and Dignitas Open 5G-Powered Esports Facility in Los Angeles

Verizon has partnered with esports organization Dignitas to open the Verizon 5G Gaming Center, the first esports training facility in the U.S. to incorporate 5G. The center is located inside Verizon’s 5G lab in Los Angeles.

The 5,500-square-foot facility will serve as Dignitas’ new West Coast headquarters and as a training facility for the organization’s League of Legends team. According to a press release, the facility aims to enhance player performance, improve recovery, and create digital and social media content for fans.

“With 5G’s fast speeds, high bandwidth and low latency, players will be able to do things like stream high-quality gameplay essentially in real-time, stay connected with fans on-the-go, and experience console quality multi-player gaming on their phones,” said Nicki Palmer, chief product development officer at Verizon, in the press release.

STATE OF THE INDUSTRY: Don’t Miss the World’s Premier Sports Tech Event (March 26–27 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn)

Dignitas, which is owned by Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, merged last September with fellow esports giant Clutch Gaming. The two companies are now part of a parent organization called New Meta Entertainment. HBSE also owns the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL’s New Jersey Devils.

Last June, Dignitas opened an East Coast esports training and content production facility in Newark, N.J. In addition to League of Legends, Dignitas fields teams in gaming titles such as Counter-Strike, Clash Royale, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros.

While Verizon is establishing esports roots in Los Angeles through this new facility, Nike recently partnered with T1 Entertainment & Sports to launch an esports training facility in South Korea.
