Super Bowl LIV Will Stream in Ultra High Definition and High Dynamic Range

Fans will be able to stream Super Bowl LIV in Ultra High Definition and High Dynamic Range on the Fox Sports and Fox Now apps. Fox Sports will produce the Kansas City Chiefs-San Francisco 49ers game in 1080p/HDR at 59.94 frames per second and will broadcast in 4K on select 4K streaming devices.

According to Fox, 70 total manned and robotic cameras will be used during the Super Bowl. That number includes more than 24 super motion high-speed cameras, which will be the most super motion cameras used by any network for a Super Bowl. The super motion cameras capture film from 180 to 1,800 frames per second. Fox will be using HDC-8300 Sony cameras, which have never been deployed in an NFL postseason game.

STATE OF THE INDUSTRY: Don’t Miss the World’s Premier Sports Tech Event (March 26–27 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn)

The game will also feature three 8K cameras to capture sideline shots as well as two SkyCams to capture overhead shots. The higher SkyCam will be attached to the spires of Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, making it the first SkyCam to be elevated above the roof of a venue.

Fox Sports will also deploy multiple augmented reality cameras inside the stadium that are powered by Unreal Engine, a 3D graphics software owned by Epic Games. The AR integrated-cameras will include goal post robo-cams and the SkyCam.

All together, the Fox Sports production headquarters will consist of 13 mobile units and 15 temporary structures, totaling nearly 30,000-square-feet of office space. The Super Bowl broadcast will be supported by 180,000 feet of cable and three megawatts of power generators.
