MLB Franchise Notes: Indians Won't Wear Script "I" Cap This Season

In Cleveland, Joe Noga notes the Indians "will not wear script 'I' ball caps as part of their official on-field, clubhouse or batting practice uniform scheme" this season. The hat will, however, be "available for fans to purchase online and at local retail stores." The club said that New Era "selected the script 'I' logo cap from its Cooperstown Collection for routine use on one of its off-field hats" for '20. Noga notes the Indians "were not involved in the selection of this particular logo for merchandising this year." The script “I” logo debuted in '02 and was "featured on caps" through the '10 season, when it was "replaced by the block 'C' logo." The Indians said that "no major changes or enhancements are expected for the uniforms" this season (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 1/22).

DANCE OF DISRESPECT: In Denver, Sean Keeler notes Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado’s claim that he has been disrespected by Exec VP & GM Jeff Bridich this offseason is “becoming bit of a running theme these days.” Bridich is “trying to tap-dance around a nuclear winter that’s partly of his own making.” Keeler: “Choose, Dick Monfort. … The fans made their minds up a long time ago" (DENVER POST, 1/22).

NEW STRIPES: The Tigers are “subbing out the traditional TigerFest Saturday, which for decades had been held on a cold Saturday in January, for a series of ‘Signature Saturdays.’” An “autograph signing event will take place Saturday” from 10:00am to noon CT at two locations. The club also is “planning to host Signature Saturdays at Comerica Park prior to every Saturday home game this season” (DETROIT NEWS, 1/22).
