Crew Seeking New Primary Jersey Sponsor After Acura Deal Expires

Acura's jersey sponsorship was the Crew's largest annual commercial deal when it was signed in '17crew

The Crew are "searching for a new company" to be their jersey sponsor in '20, as their deal with Acura expired at the end of '19 and "will not be renewed," according to Jacob Myers of the COLUMBUS DISPATCH. Acura signed a three-year deal in '17 with the Crew's previous ownership to replace Barbasol as the primary jersey sponsor. But the club and car manufacturer "decided not to renew the deal" during the '19 season. The Crew are "targeting local businesses to be the next jersey sponsor." Crew Dir of Communications Tim Miller said that the club "expects to have an announcement closer to the first game March 1." Myers notes Acura never "disclosed how much" it paid during the partnership. But former Crew President Andy Loughnane at the time of the deal said that it was the club's "largest annual commercial deal." Loughnane was among those in the Crew front office who followed former Owner Anthony Precourt to Austin, where Precourt was granted expansion franchise Austin FC (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 1/17).
