76ers' Joel Embiid To Get Signature Shoe From Under Armour

76ers C Joel Embiid is "getting a signature shoe" from Under Armour, dubbed the UA Embiid 1, which will be "released in the fall," according to Keith Pompey of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Embiid will become the "only NBA center and 17th player with a signature shoe." The shoe will honor Embiid's native Cameroon, with the "yellow, red, and green colors of the country's flag," and the "bottom of the sneaker features a design in the shape of Africa." The name of Embiid's brother, Arthur, who passed away in '14, will be "inscribed in the shoe" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 1/15). Embiid said, "It's not a big man shoe. It's a shoe for any basketball player." ESPN.com's Nick DePaula noted Embiid's deal for the shoes includes a 5% "royalty from the sales of each pair." Embiid could potentially debut his signature shoe on the court "as early as this spring's playoffs." The Embiid 1 will be "only the third signature basketball shoe" for UA, following the early series for free agent G Brandon Jennings and the "ongoing Stephen Curry line" (ESPN.com, 1/14).
