MLL Bayhawks Owner Cedes Control Of Team To League

MLL Chesapeake Bayhawks Owner Brendan Kelly has "decided to move on" from the team and league, according to Bill Wagner of the Annapolis CAPITAL. Kelly has "ceded ownership" of the Bayhawks to MLL, in a decision that was "made during a Friday meeting." Kelly is now "no longer involved" in the league. His decision was in response to "significant organizational changes being implemented" by MLL, which is "moving away from having franchises with separate owners." Beginning with the '20 season, MLL will "own and operate all six teams." Kelly said, "That model turns me into an investor and board member as opposed to an owner and that is just not in my competitive nature." However, he added, "It's the right move for the league at this time. With a single entity league, everything is carefully nurtured. It's not a good long-term model but brings short-term stability" (Annapolis CAPITAL, 1/14).
