Three Networks To Document Life, Case Of Late Aaron Hernandez

The story of Aaron Hernandez "continues to fascinate," as evidenced by two documentaries debuting this week from Netflix' and Reelz, according to Matthew Gilbert of the BOSTON GLOBE. In addition to this week's docs, cable channel Investigation Discovery next week will feature "Aaron Hernandez: An ID Murder Mystery." The three Hernandez stories will most likely "offer different levels of depth and tabloid-ishness." On Wednesday, the Netflix three-part series, "Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez," will "include courtroom footage as well as Hernandez's phone calls from prison, and interviews with those who knew him." On Saturday, Reelz premieres "Aaron Hernandez's Killing Fields," based on the book by Dylan Howard. Next Monday, Investigation Discovery will explore the "secrets and struggles that simmered beneath" the Hernandez story (BOSTON GLOBE, 1/13).

CREATING CONTROVERSY: In Philadelphia, Nick Vadala noted Michael Vick will be the subject of his own ESPN "30 for 30" documentary "starting at the end of January." Titled "Vick," the documentary will "air in two parts, on Jan. 30 and Feb. 6." The film is directed by historical documentary filmmaker Stanley Nelson. ESPN's announcement of Vick's "30 for 30" comes about a "month after backlash erupted over the NFL's inclusion of the retired football star in this year's Pro Bowl as a legends captain" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 1/11).

CALIFORNIA LOVE: HBO Sports will air a documentary highlighting Basketball HOFer Cheryl Miller and USC titled "Women of Troy," on March 10. In L.A., Eduardo Gonzalez noted the film "explores how the Miller-led Trojans changed women's basketball forever with their up-tempo style and superior athleticism en route to winning back-to-back national championships" (L.A. TIMES, 1/11).
