UF Football Attendance Rises As Other Florida Schools Drop Off

UCF averaged 43,788 fans throughout their six home games this season at Spectrum Stadiumgetty images

Univ. of Florida football averaged an announced crowd of 84,684 for their six home games this season at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, up "nearly 3% from when the school averaged 82,328" in '18, according to Matt Murschel of the ORLANDO SENTINEL. The '19 season marked the first increase in average home attendance since '15. Other Florida-based universities, however, did not fare as well. UCF averaged 43,788 fans throughout their six home games this season, which is down from the 44,019 the program averaged in '18, though Spectrum Stadium remained at "nearly 99% capacity." For the third straight season, FSU "saw its average home attendance drop" -- from 68,288 in '18 to 54,019 at Doak Campbell Stadium this season -- a 20% drop year-over-year. This season's figure also is "down 30% from the last time" FSU saw an increase (76,800 in '16). Miami's average home attendance dropped from 61,469 last season to 52,829 this season, while USF's dropped by 17.4% (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 1/10).

BATON ROUGE BOOM: LSU Senior Associate AD/External Communications Robert Munson said that the athletic department is already "seeing a boost in ticket sales" for football next season, both "general public and premium seating." Munson: "We're selling numbers before 2020 even begins that we've never seen before." He added that ticket sales last season were down 1.5% over the year prior, which he chalked up to being "part of a wider trend of decreased college football attendance while TV and streaming viewership increases" (THEATHLETIC.com, 1/9).
