Rapsodo Launches Insight Slo-Mo Camera to Monitor Baseball, Softball Hitting and Pitching Performance

Rapsodo has launched a new high-speed camera system called Insight. The device can capture slow motion video, between 640 and 850 frames per second, to help baseball and softball players and coaches monitor hitting and pitching performance.

Insight designed to be integrated with Rapsodo’s hitting and pitching tracking systems, which measure metrics such as spin rate, exit velocity and launch angle. These metrics can now be overlayed in real-time over video from Insight. All 30 MLB teams use Rapsodo’s ball-flight monitoring systems. Pitchers such as Adam Ottavino and James Paxton have both previously talked about their use of Rapsodo.

“After seeing much success from our Hitting and Pitching technology, INSIGHT seemed to be the next step to complete our offerings,” said Batuhan Okur, founder and CEO of Rapsodo, in a press release. “We listened to our users and wanted to provide them with all the necessary tools they need to better understand and apply the data.”

At MLB’s Winter Meetings in December, SportTechie’s Joe Lemire reported on the fact that the biggest growth area in baseball biomechanical analysis is in optical systems, not wearable devices.

Insight is currently available for pre-order, priced at $3,500. Separate lenses help the camera capture both hitting and pitching. It also has dedicated settings for filming outdoors and indoors.
