Sponsorships Helping Roger Federer Over $1B Career Earnings Mark

Federer's total career earnings are approaching $900M, with another $200M committed by sponsorsGETTY IMAGES

Roger Federer appears "likely to break" the $100M mark in annual earnings for the first time, and is "on course to earn" $1B through sponsorship and prize money over the course of his career, according to Kamakshi Tandon of TENNIS.com. According to Forbes' recent mid-year figures, Federer's annual earnings have "reached a career-high" of $93.4M -- a big jump from the $77.2M he was estimated to have earned in '18. That increase "likely reflects the sponsorship agreement he signed with Uniqlo" in '18, which is "rumored to pay" $30M annually. That is about $15-20M "more than he had been getting from Nike, which included both clothing and shoes." The dollar figures "only appear to be going up," as Federer recently announced an "investment in On, a running shoe company based in Switzerland, with plans to develop a shoe line." Federer also had a "lucrative South American exhibition tour during the off-season," which is said to be worth at least $10M, along with "another exhibition in China, both of which will be on top of his usual take-home pay." This all leaves Federer's "career on-and-off-court earnings approaching" $900M, with another $200M "committed by sponsors." That would mark the "first time a tennis player has become an official 'billionaire' from the sport" (TENNIS.com, 1/7).
