New Octagon-Owned WTA Event Heading To Turkey In '20

Octagon and the Turkish Tennis Federation today are announcing an agreement to stage a new WTA event in Istanbul. The tournament will join the '20 WTA Tour schedule, running April 20-26 at the Turkish Tennis Federation Tennis Center, which is in the midst of a comprehensive renovation, including all-new clay courts. “We look forward to working with the Turkish Tennis Federation and Octagon on building a very special WTA tournament in Istanbul,” said WTA CEO Steve Simon. “Istanbul has been home to many WTA events and we are pleased to continue the tradition of hosting the world’s best tennis players in Istanbul as we embark on an exciting new season.” Octagon owns the tournament and will work with the TTF to run it, the 11th WTA event that Octagon owns or operates. The company expects to announce corporate sponsors for the Turkish tournament in the near future. Octagon VP/Tennis Alastair Garland said, "Istanbul is a vibrant city, with a rich tennis heritage, and we look forward to building on that history to continue to develop the sport of tennis in Turkey."
