Sentry Extends Deal To Sponsor PGA Tour's Tournament Of Champions

The new 10-year deal for the Maui event replaces the original five-year agreement announced in August '17sentry tournament of champions

Wisconsin-based Sentry Insurance has signed a "long-term extension that will keep Sentry as the title sponsor of the Sentry Tournament of Champions through the 2029-30 PGA Tour season," according to Mike Sherry of the STEVENS POINT JOURNAL. The new 10-year deal for the event at Kapalua's Plantation Resort in Maui "replaces the original five-year agreement," which was announced in August '17. Sentry Chair, President & CEO Pete McPartland said talks had been ongoing for the last "three or four months." McPartland "wouldn't disclose financial terms of the extension, but title sponsorship of a PGA Tour event reportedly started" at $7M annually in '17 when the initial sponsorship agreement was signed. McPartland: "It's a several-million-dollar commitment, but by all the measurables this has been an exceedingly good investment in extending our brand." Sherry noted since becoming title sponsor, Sentry "established the Sentry Scholars Program, which annually awards four scholarships" between the Univ. of Hawaii and a Univ. of Hawaii community college to "promote workforce development." Sentry will also "donate $25,000 to the Maui United Way to support education, income sustainability and health, adding to its $25,000 donation to the organization during last year's tournament" (STEVENS POINT JOURNAL, 1/1). The extension means Sentry will be the "longest-running sponsor since the winners-only event moved to Maui" in '99 (AP, 1/1).
