Broncos Exec Joe Ellis Voices Concern Over Dwindling Attendance

The no-show totals for the Chargers, Lions and Raiders games were ''eye-popping" for a usually loyal fan basegetty images

Broncos President & CEO Joe Ellis admitted he was "concerned" about the no-show totals for the team's last three home games at Empower Field at Mile High, according to Ryan O'Halloran of the DENVER POST. The number of no-shows cannot be "attributed to anything but the on-field product." The Broncos announced no-show totals of 19,094 (Chargers), 9,674 (Lions) and 9,327 (Raiders), which are "eye-popping numbers for a loyal fan base even though the team stretched their streak of non-playoff years to four." During his season-ending news conference on Monday, Ellis said, "(When) people start speaking with their feet, it gets my attention. I think it gets everybody's attention around here, as it should. When someone doesn't show up, that means the ticket had no value to them. That's concerning." Meanwhile, O'Halloran noted the Falcons this year will play a non-divisional home game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the Broncos are "very interested" to join. Ellis said of talks with the NFL about playing in London, "I haven't heard anything from the league other than I've pestered and begged them." He added, "It'd be really good for us to go there. I put in a personal request to [Falcons Owner] Arthur Blank and he came up to me at the last league meeting and was supporting" (DENVER POST, 1/1).
