Speculation Suggests Bruce Allen Could Be Nearing End With Redskins

Allen's absence from the team's suite during games is causing some to wonder about his futureGETTY IMAGES

Redskins Owner Dan Snyder and President Bruce Allen "have not been spotted together nearly as much" in recent weeks, and the fact that Allen was not in Snyder's box during Eagles-Redskins on Sunday "only fueled speculation that Allen will soon be out," according to Les Carpenter of the WASHINGTON POST. Sources said that Snyder "has not made a decision on Allen's future with the team." But one source said Allen's absence in the suite is a "big thing." Meanwhile, injured Redskins QB Alex Smith has "become a regular companion of Snyder's" while recovering from his leg injury suffered last season. Smith has been a "constant presence at Snyder's side," but what has drawn the "greatest attention was the absence of Allen." Smith's increased time with Snyder has "raised speculation around the league that the quarterback is in line to receive a front-office position" (WASHINGTON POST, 12/17). In DC, Matthew Paras wrote though Allen has been "long considered a trusted Snyder confidant," his future with the Redskins has "never been more in doubt." His "public estrangement" from Snyder "only creates more questions." Despite "rumors involving his exit," Allen appears to be "going about his job as normally as he can" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 12/16).

CRAZY ENOUGH TO WORK: In DC, Sally Jenkins writes under the header, "Urban Meyer To The Redskins Is A Combustible Idea. It Also Could Be Just What The Team Needs." The Redskins "should offer the house for Meyer, and be grateful it he'll take it." Jenkins: "You know what they really ought to give him? Total control over the entire building -- and make it ironclad. If they take a flier on Meyer, then they should do it headlong, and play to his strength: control. See if his strong hand can remake the joint" (WASHINGTON POST, 12/17).
