Virtual Raven Takes Flight During Thursday Night Football at M&T Bank Stadium

The Baltimore Ravens debuted a mixed reality activation during their home game against the New York Jets last Thursday, with a computer generated raven appearing on live camera views of the arena. The raven was created by The Famous Group, a fan experience company based in Los Angeles.

At various points during the game, video boards inside the stadium showed the animated Raven flying around the venue as cameras panned to follow it. The real-life Ravens football team posted a video of the virtual Raven on its Twitter.

“Prior to the event we scanned and mapped the entire stadium to scale so the Raven can interact with the environment in real-time, mirroring and reacting to the lighting conditions, casting shadows, and even landing on the goal post in the stadium ... making it feel real,” Eric Burak, executive producer at The Famous Group, wrote in an email to SportTechie.

The Famous Group also partnered with design firm Quince Imaging and mixed reality technology company The Future Group to execute this project for the Ravens.
