Cowboys' Jerry Jones Says NFL Will Likely Revise Marijuana Policy

Jones said to expect an adjustment of the "present way that marijuana is being thought about" in the NFLGETTY IMAGES

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones said that the NFL's marijuana policy "likely will be revised" in the next CBA, according to Michael Gehlken of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. MLB last week removed marijuana from its "drugs of abuse" list, but in the NFL, it remains a banned substance. Jones said, "You should expect and will expect an adjustment of the contemporary way or the present way that marijuana is being thought about" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 12/14). In Detroit, Carlos Monarrez noted Lions LB Devon Kennard, who is the team's union rep, "agreed" with Jones' assessment of the NFL's marijuana policy. Kennard said, "It's something that we've got to vote on as the (NFL Players' Association) to fight for and then something that the owners have to be willing to give to allow to happen." He added that he thought players would be "strongly in favor of removing marijuana from the league's list of banned substances." Kennard: "There's a lot of different stuff out there now like oils and stuff that guys feel like help them that they can't take or don't take but otherwise would. I think guys would like it, but I don't know" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 12/14). Patriots QB Tom Brady said, "The stigma is being removed and hopefully they're doing a lot of research into whatever benefits there may come from it." He added, "These are the signs of the times and things are changing and progress is good" (BOSTON.com, 12/13).
