Euroleague Basketball has launched the 2020 FanXP Innovation Challenge, a pitch competition for sports tech startups. Applications are being accepted until Jan. 10.
The league is looking for startups focused on developing products for improving fan experiences and those that can generate revenue opportunities through broadcast, in-arena or digital platforms. Startup event organizer 4YFN, sports technology consulting firm N3XT Sports, and the University of La Salle in Barcelona have partnered with Euroleague Basketball to help facilitate the event.
On Jan. 22, a maximum of 10 companies will be announced as finalists. Those startups will be invited to the 4YFN conference in Barcelona Feb 24-26. Euroleague executive and a panel of judges will be present at the event to select the winning exhibits. Startups will have the potential to pilot test their products at an official Euroleague Basketball event and receive investment opportunities.
"We are excited to find out what opportunities can be found in the crossroads of sports, fan experience, technology and innovation," Jordi Bertomeu, president & CEO of Euroleague Basketball, said in a press release.
According to Euroleague Basketball, startups participating in the FanXP Innovation Challenge must be operating for at least two years and have at least two full-time workers. The league also requires the startups to have paying clients or users.
