‘MLB The Show’ Will Extend Beyond Playstation Console

Major League Baseball announced that the video game series MLB The Show will be made available for gaming consoles beyond Playstation starting as soon as 2021. Since the series was launched in 1997, the game has been made exclusively for Sony’s Playstation.

The decision to distribute to additional platforms came as part of a new multi-year, multi-platform agreement reached by MLB, the MLB Players Association, and San Diego Studio (a gaming subsidiary owned by Sony that developed MLB The Show). On Monday, both the official Twitter accounts belonging to Xbox and Nintendo responded to MLB’s announcement, perhaps hinting that the video game series will be coming to Xbox and Nintendo platforms.

Sony’s inclusion in the new agreement confirms that the series will continue to be available on Playstation devices, even as MLB The Show is added to more platforms. MLB The Show 20, the latest iteration of the series, is scheduled to be released March 17 exclusively on Playstation.

Making MLB The Show available on more platforms figures to be seen as a positive move for OneTeam Partners, a marketing company that was co-founded by the MLBPA and NFLPA in November. The company was established with a focus on finding new opportunities for athletes to profit off of the booming esports and digital gaming industries.
