Nebraska Scanned Attendances Slightly Up Over Last Season

The Univ. of Nebraska's scanned ticket numbers for the '19 football season "show a slight uptick in yearly average," as the school averaged 72,699 fans over seven home games at Memorial Stadium, the "best number" since 75,002 in '16, according to Parker Gabriel of the LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR. Despite the overall increase, numbers "fell a bit in November," including 60,232 for a matchup against Iowa. That marks the "second-lowest mark of the past four years" for a Nebraska home game, "trailing only 54,838 last fall for a November home game against Illinois." Nebraska also had "one of its biggest home game numbers in recent years" for the Ohio State game in September, scanning 79,502 fans in for the game. The only two games that have "topped that mark in the past four years" were Colorado in '18 (80,654) and Oregon in '16 (80,865). Those numbers are still "far below the listed attendances for home games," but the scanned numbers "do not include people in the stadium such as workers, media members and marching band members" (LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR, 12/5).

THE STREAK CONTINUES: 247SPORTS.com's Brian Christopherson noted Nebraska's "streak of selling out all the tickets to 375 games in a row," which dates back to '62, "still goes on." There is "no doubt the challenge of actually filling seats has become way greater everywhere in recent years." Even though the sellout streak remains, the numbers show "not everyone is using those tickets." Nebraska winning more games "could help the cause of bolstering those lagging November numbers of tickets actually scanned, especially as the weather turns colder and some decide viewing the game on a high-def television in a warm room is preferable." Prior to this season, Nebraska's "season-ticket renewal rate" was nearly 96% (247SPORTS.com, 12/4).
