Giants' Tisch: Decisions On Shurmur, Gettleman To Come After Season

With a 2-10 record this season, change could be coming to the top of the Giants' power structureGETTY MAGES

NFL Giants Chair & Exec VP Steve Tisch said that the team "won't decide" on Senior VP & GM Dave Gettleman's and coach Pat Shurmur's fates "until after the season," according to Pat Leonard of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. But Tisch acknowledged a change "may be called for at the top of the Giants' power structure" with the team sitting at 2-10. Tisch: "It's been a very frustrating season. At the end of the season, [Giants President & CEO] John Mara and I are gonna get together and discuss the future. As partners we have to be very honest with each other about where we see this team going into the 2020 season." Leonard notes it was "good to finally hear from a Giants decision maker," as Mara and Gettleman "haven't addressed the media all season" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 12/4). In New Jersey, Art Stapleton notes the Giants have "lost 17 of their last 22 games" at MetLife Stadium. The Giants are 7-21 since Shurmur and Gettleman were "hired to replace Ben McAdoo and Jerry Reese, both of whom were fired" two years ago (Bergen RECORD, 12/4). PFT's Mike Florio said recently fired Panthers coach Ron Rivera "may be the guy that saves Dave Gettleman." Florio said Gettleman "should be banging on John Mara's door today saying, 'How about hiring Ron Rivera,' because that does save Dave Gettleman" ("PFT," NBCSN, 12/4).

FANS FIRST: In Newark, Matt Lombardo notes despite the "now-constant losing," Tisch pleaded for Giants fans to "keep the faith." Tisch: "I'm asking for patience. I'm being patient, which you know at times is challenging. Please be understanding and patient. I want Giants fans to feel that their voice is being heard" (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 12/4). NBCSN's Peter King said the "paying customers (are) very, very important to the Mara family" because "you might think right now these are meaningless games, John Mara does not think these are meaningless games." He added, "You might laugh at me for saying this but these last four games are a factor collectively in what happens and what decision the Giants are going to make" ("PFT," NBCSN, 12/4).
