Flexing Their Mussels: Twins' Single-A Affiliate Changes Name

The Twins' Single-A affiliate in the Florida State League "officially became" the Mighty Mussels yesterday, rebranding from the Ft. Myers Miracle moniker, according to Andrew Sodergren of the Ft. Myers NEWS-PRESS. The new primary logo depicts a "muscle-bound mussel calling his shot with beach-inspired lettering," while a secondary mark features the "mighty mussel lifting a barbell with baseballs for weights." The team's new colors include those that "define Southwest Florida: Twins navy, gulf purple, sunset lavender, golden sun, yellow sand and sky blue." Mighty Mussels Owner Andy Kaufmann said, "We went around the local community and mentioned the beach, and the mussels spoke to us. There are actually 60 species of mussels in Southwest Florida, which is kind of crazy. So it just clicked immediately." He also talked about the "desire to give the Fort Myers franchise its own identity." Kaufmann said that there are "already talks of various new promotions and tie-ins to the new brand name, logo and mascot." The Mighty Mussels, which have played in Ft. Myers under the Miracle nickname since '92, are not one of the teams under consideration of being dropped by MLB in '21 (Ft. Myers NEWS-PRESS, 12/4).
