Golfer Adam Scott has "left the door only slightly ajar to spearhead Australia's team" at the Tokyo Games after "conceding it was 'not a priority,'" according to Adam Pengilly of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. Scott, one of the "most vocal critics of golf's return" to the Olympics in '16, "labelled the Games format -- a traditional 72-hole individual strokeplay event rather than teams event -- as 'incredibly disappointing' before claiming he hadn't yet made a firm decision on whether he would commit to Tokyo." He said, "I haven't ruled it out, but it is certainly not my priority. We will see how the year shapes up for me." Scott said he still questions "strongly why" golf is being included in Tokyo, adding, "It is not in a great place in the schedule if you are treating other things seriously." Still, Pengilly notes Scott has been a "regular visitor to Japan in recent years" due to his partnership with Japan-based Uniqlo (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 12/2). In criticizing the 72-hole, stroke-play format, Scott said there "could have been so much done with it to do good for the game or grow the game" like organizers "say they want to."
