Construction Coming Along On Edmonton's Ice District Plaza

The finishing touches are "coming together for Edmonton's Ice District Public Plaza, with more seating, a working outdoor fireplace and dozens of trees slated for the final vision," according to Jeff Labine of the EDMONTON JOURNAL. Oilers Entertainment Group Senior VP/Communications Tim Shipton said that construction is "nearly complete for the roughly 50,000-square-foot space." The "next big amenity" for the plaza will be the "fireplace, which is slated to be ready sometime this winter." Another "big change to the space will be the installation of three media towers, which are scheduled to go up in the spring." Shipton said that the towers could be "used for anything including showing an Oilers game or tailgating." He added that next year will be "dedicated to the construction of Block BG." That site will be "housing an ice plant for the rink." The full vision of the plaza is "expected to be realized" in late '20 or early '21 (EDMONTON JOURNAL, 11/30).
