A majority of Washingtonians "support building a new Redskins stadium on the RFK Stadium site," but most "don't want to use taxpayer dollars to help pay for it," according to a poll cited by Maese & Guskin of the WASHINGTON POST. The prospect of the franchise "returning to the District has been a hot-button issue" for city officials and elected leaders. The November poll of DC residents "finds that nearly 6 in 10 ... support the Redskins building a new stadium two miles east" of the U.S. Capitol, while 33% "are opposed." When it comes to funding the construction, 39% of DC residents support the city government "providing the team with land to build a stadium on, and even fewer, 28 percent, support using city funds to help finance a new stadium." Opposition to building a Redskins stadium is "higher in Ward 6" -- which includes the neighborhoods around the RFK site -- "than in the city overall, with 52 percent opposed compared with 33 percent citywide." The poll indicates that support for a new stadium on the RFK site is "consistent across most demographics in the city, including at least half of men and women, white and black residents, old and young, and those who live in different parts of the city" (WASHINGTON POST, 11/23).
STRUCTURALLY UNSOUND: YAHOO FINANCE's Serwer & Zahn wrote, "Impossible as it is to believe, the situation in Washington has worsened this season." When it comes to Redskins Owner Dan Snyder, "at some point ... you have to ask, what's the end game here?" Snyder "could own the team for another 30-plus years, right?" In the meantime, fans must "suffer and wait it out." Andy Serwer wrote, "There is another option. Sadly, after 50 years of rooting for the Redskins, I've switched over to the Baltimore Ravens. After 20 years of Snyder, it was time" (YAHOO.FINANCE.com, 11/23).
