Canadian Soccer Fans Can Subscribe to Get CPL Analytics Delivered Straight to Their Inboxes

Canadian Premier League fans can now subscribe to get advanced club and player match data sent to them via email. The idea, run by sports data analysis firm Stats Perform, is called “Centre Circle Data,” is believed to be the first time this type of initiative has been trialled.

Fans—and both the media and data analysts—can subscribe for free on the league’s website. Users will receive statistics on every ball touch that occurs during a game, including passes, shots, as well as defensive and goalkeeping actions.

“Stats Perform’s CPL data is collected at the same level of detail as some of the biggest football leagues in the world and this provides an exciting opportunity for fans who want to analyze deeper aspects of the game,” said Alex Rice, chief rights officer at Stats Perform, in a press release. “We look forward to seeing how fans, scouts and aspiring analysts will use this data to further bring the game to life.”

PRO DAY: Join SportTechie in NYC on Dec. 12 for Sports Media Production & Consumption

Stats Perform signed a four-year deal earlier this year to become the official data provider for the CPL. The league finished its inaugural season in October, and sits at the top of the Canadian men’s soccer pyramid. The CPL also has a separate data agreement with Sportlogiq, which operates as the league’s official insights partner to provide player performance and scouting data to clubs.

In April, Stats merged with DAZN-owned Perform Content to form Stats Perform. The company uses the Opta data platform, acquired by Perform in 2013, to collect and manage data from CPL matches.
