Facility Notes

In Milwaukee, Molly Beck reported a sales tax that "funded the construction" of the Brewers' Miller Park will end next year under a new law signed Wednesday by Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers. Taxpayers in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, Waukesha and Racine counties have "paid 0.1% extra in sales tax for 23 years to fund construction" of the $392M ballpark. The law "requires the tax to disappear" by Aug. 31, 2020, "whether or not the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District had paid off its bonds and satisfied reserve requirements." It does appear that the district "expects to meet those goals" by early next year (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 11/21).

GOING UP: A "gondola is being built" by the Dolphins on the south side of Hard Rock Stadium, with Austrian ski lift manufacturer Doppelmayr "handling construction." The lift, which "costs approximately" $3M, is "expected to be completed just in time" for Super Bowl LIV. The gondola is "for entertainment purposes rather than transportation," as the ride will "extend roughly 1800 feet and last about 10 minutes, giving passengers a bird's eye view of the crowd." Riders will also have a "clear shot of the Miami skyline in the distance" (MIAMI HERALD, 11/22).

ROOM FOR EVERYONE? Raiders President Marc Badain this week said that tailgating will "not be a major issue next season when the Raiders relocate" to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Since word caught on that just 2,725 on-site parking spaces would exist, worries have "arisen about sufficient parking access and tailgating opportunities" for Raiders fans. But Badain "gave assurances that fans will be able to get together near the stadium before games at Allegiant Stadium" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 11/22).
