David Levy Disappointed In Short Stint With Nets, J Tsai Sports

David Levy said he was disappointed that his job with J Tsai Sports, the Nets and Barclays Center lasted less than two months. In a statement emailed to THE DAILY, Levy said, “It is with deep disappointment that I am leaving my position as CEO of the Brooklyn Nets, Barclays Center and President of J Tsai Sports. After working with one company for 32 years, I am sorry that my second venture ended so quickly. It turned out that the job was not the job I signed up for and envisioned.” In a September interview about his job, Levy said he would focus on the Nets and Barclays Center while "looking to expand and find new opportunities for J Tsai Sports." He had said, "For me to manage all three of those and put it together is what I did at Turner."

WHAT HAPPENED? A source said that the structure of that original deal changed and Levy found that he had less influence on the basketball side than he was expecting. In his statement, Levy did not address rumors about why his job ended so quickly. But a source said that the decision was not related to any issues with China. The source described it as a mutual decision based on a change in Levy’s role in the organization. Levy: “The experience was something that was new and exciting for me, and I am grateful to Joe Tsai for extending me this opportunity and for his kind words on my departure. Albeit brief, I enjoyed collaborating with the talented individuals with the Nets and Barclays Center. I look forward to taking some time as I prepare for my next challenge.”
