Indiana Sees Big Boost In Second Month Of Legal Sports Betting

Indiana saw a "big boost in its second month of legal sports gambling with the highly anticipated launch of regulated mobile sports betting," according to Andrew Clark of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. The state accepted nearly $91.7M in "mobile and retail wagers in October." More than half of that was "wagered via one of the three mobile sportsbooks that have launched in the state." DraftKings' mobile sportsbook took in more than $39.3M by itself in October, "more than the entire state accepted in September, when sports betting became legal." People in Indiana bet more than $41M on football in October, "far more than any other individual sport." Parlays commanded more than $20M in wagers (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 11/13).

FALLING BEHIND: In Syracuse, Don Cazentre notes the four Upstate New York commercial casinos that "opened legal sportsbooks just before the current football season" have earned just over $6M in revenues since then. Experts said that is "far short of what it could be -- and less than in states with fewer restrictions on sports betting." New York's revenues, so far, "trail nine of the other states that have authorized sports betting." New York "prohibits bets on in-state college teams and on any college sporting event taking place in the state." New York also "got off to a later start than some states" (Syracuse POST-STANDARD, 11/13).
