Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Could Be Looking to Join the NFL Owners’ Club

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos is interested in buying an NFL team and has strong support to do so from current NFL team owners, according to CBS Sports.

The world’s richest man founded Amazon in 1994 and has a net worth of $110.4 billion, according to Forbes. He also owns The Washington Post. CBS Sports reports that Bezos is close with a number of NFL owners, including Dan Snyder. Bezos is also in the process of moving to Washington, D.C., fueling speculation that he could be a candidate to buy a stake in Washington’s NFL team.

“Some believe [Bezos] could aid Snyder's pursuit of a new stadium, perhaps even with an Amazon sponsorship,” writes Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

On Monday, Washington’s NFL team released a statement refuting the report from CBS that suggested Bezos had any meaningful connection with Snyder.

CBS Sports also claims that Bezos watched this past Super Bowl from a suite belonging to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. No current NFL teams are currently on the market, though the Seattle Seahawks are expected to be sold at some point after the team’s owner Paul Allen died last year. Amazon’s headquarters are located in Seattle.

Since 2017, Amazon has owned the rights to stream Thursday Night Football. In addition to Amazon Prime Video, TNF games also livestream on Twitch, a social gaming platform owned by the e-commerce giant. New this NFL season, Amazon debuted a pregame show for its TNF coverage. The NFL has also reportedly talked with big tech companies such as Amazon regarding the league’s future broadcasting rights.
