New Fan Elements Add To Sacramento MLS Stadium Price Tag

Stadium designs released earlier this year included an observation deck and a 360-degree concourseREPUBLIC FC

The cost of Sacramento's stadium for its MLS expansion club has jumped by $50M, and is "now expected to top" $300M, with some of the increase due to "upgrades to the stadium design -- including an upper-level patio-style fan venue with panoramic city views for premium ticket holders," according to Tony Bizjak of the SACRAMENTO BEE. The current price of $305M also is just a "pre-construction estimate." Stadium designs released earlier this year included an "observation deck" and a 360-degree concourse that would "allow fans to walk around the entire venue." At the top of the stadium, designs "call for an outdoor venue called The Canopy, which will be available to premium ticket buyers and will offer city views from five stories up, as well as views of the pitch." Another premium club space "near the field will serve as the entrance walkway" for players. Sacramento Republic FC President & COO Ben Gumpert said that the players will "walk directly through the center of the club." A third fan venue will be "built on a bridgeway -- similar to the draught house in the Golden 1 Center -- and will be open to all ticket holders" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 11/12).
