New Poll Reveals Public Support For A's With Deadline Nearing

In a new poll commissioned by the Oakland Chamber of Commerce, 77% of voters are for "retaining" the A's franchise, according to Phil Matier of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Building a privately financed ballpark at the Port of Oakland's Howard Terminal "got the support of 68% of the voters, even if it means setting up a special tax district to pay for infrastructure." The poll also shows that 44% of voters believe the city should "drop its lawsuit over the Coliseum land sale, compared with 28% who support the lawsuit and 28% with no opinion on the matter." Research firm FM3 "took the poll of 601 registered voters from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1 as part of the chamber's annual Pulse of Oakland survey." The poll, "which has a margin of error of plus or minus 4%, comes as the clock ticks down" on the Friday deadline set by MLB for the city to "drop the suit or risk the A's relocating to another city" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 11/10).
