CBS Has No Plans To Put Romo, Nantz Back On A Sideline

"NFL On CBS" lead producer Jim Rikhoff said that the net "doesn't expect" to have Tony Romo and Jim Nantz call a game from the sidelines again this season, according to Rob Tornoe of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Romo and Nantz during Packers-Chargers last Sunday "pulled off an NFL first" by calling part of the game "from the sideline of Dignity Health Sports Park." The moment came with "little fanfare, but quickly went viral." Rikhoff: "We just wanted to give people a feel for what this place is like. It's a totally different environment than your normal NFL game." Rikhoff said that the idea came about when Romo and Nantz called Broncos-Chargers earlier this season, and the duo "wanted to figure out a way to showcase the intimacy of the Chargers' temporary home." Both Romo and Nantz "got behind the idea of doing part of the broadcast from the sideline," and Rikhoff "began to work on the logistics, and timed himself walking from the field back to the booth to make sure it could be accomplished during a commercial break." Romo and Nantz "remained on the sideline for two segments during the third quarter, calling the game off the jumbotron at the stadium and a monitor Rikhoff brought down to the sideline" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 11/8).
