NFL Franchise Notes: Do Bears Need A New Ownership Group?

In Chicago, Phil Rosenthal writes with the current state of the Bears, "maybe it's time" for the McCaskey family to "sell the team." It "just might be time for the McCaskeys to allow someone else or some other group to take control for the good of the franchise and its fans." At least it "would be interesting to see how the Bears would fare under new stewardship." Heading into the franchise's second century, there is "no greater gift they could give Bears fans than a reason for optimism" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 11/8).

EURO TRIP: Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager cited a source within the Chargers organization as saying that there is a "0.0% chance of our team moving to London," following up on Owner Dean Spanos' firm denial of a report earlier in the week. The source added that if the organization was "going to do something in Europe, it’d be along the Mediterranean, close the Spanos family roots in Greece." However, that is "not happening either” (“Fox NFL Thursday Pregame,” Fox, 11/7). Meanwhile, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Chargers GM Tom Telesco talked to the team on Tuesday "to tell them all these rumors going around about the Chargers moving to London are not true." Telesco "really doesn’t speak to the team very often" (“Get Up,” ESPN, 11/7).

WHAT'S IN A NAME? In K.C., Dave Helling writes the Chiefs "should rename Arrowhead Stadium for Lamar Hunt." The late club founder "clearly deserves to be remembered" in K.C. His "decision to bring his AFL franchise" to town "cemented the city's status as a major league community." Hunt "never threatened to leave," or "used his team as a negotiating tool." The Chiefs "would probably resist" a renaming because Hunt "wanted to call the stadium Arrowhead, after all" (K.C. STAR, 11/8).

IN THE DAWG HOUSE: In Cleveland, Kevin Kleps noted Browns tickets are sold out for the rest of the season, and the crowds, "at least against the Bills and Steelers, should be at or near capacity." It will be "interesting, though, to see how many Bills and Steelers fans are in attendance" for those games. After that, the last three home games "could have their share of empty seats if the Browns don't beat the Bills and Steelers" (CRAINSCLEVELAND.com, 11/6).
