Audience Analysis: Florida-Georgia Bolsters CBS; NHL Starts Strong

CBS averaged just under 7 million viewers for Georgia’s win over Florida on Saturday afternoon, marking the annual football matchup’s best audience since at least ’88 and up 10% from 6.4 million viewers last year. The game helped increase CBS’ average audience for SEC games this season (just under 6 million viewers). That is the best mark for the package at this point in the season since ’13.

HORSE FEATHERS: NBC drew 1.7 million viewers for the Breeders’ Cup Classic in primetime on Saturday, up from 1.6 million for the race on a Saturday afternoon last year, but down from 2 million viewers for the race in primetime two years ago.

HOT ICE: NBCSN is averaging 352,000 viewers for NHL game coverage to date (15 games), marking its best start to the season since ’15-16. That figure also is up 24% compared to the same point last season (278,000 viewers). Helping the increase was a 15% bump for the opening night doubleheader.

RACE DAY: ABC drew 861,000 viewers for the F1 U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon as Lewis Hamilton locked up his sixth F1 title. That figure is up 9% compared to 793,000 last year. Meanwhile, NBCSN drew 2.2 million viewers for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race from Texas on Sunday, down 3% from 2.3 million last year.
