USC Expected To Announce Mike Bohn As AD By End Of Week

Univ. of Cincinnati AD Mike Bohn's announcement as the new USC AD is "expected by the end of the week," with everything "still on course," according to sources cited by Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel (TWITTER.com, 11/5). SI.com's Adam Maya wrote the reason Bohn has not been officially announced yet "has to do with who could be" the school's next football coach. Sources said that Bohn "has not signed a deal with USC because of strong resistance from high-ranking members of the administration over Urban Meyer being offered the head coaching job" if the school fires coach Clay Helton. That stance is "said to have played a part in multiple ADs declining USC," but the matter "came to a head with Bohn only after he agreed to leave his current post at Cincinnati." Discussions between Bohn and USC President Carol Folt continued yesterday in an "effort to resolve the situation." The administration's working plan has been to "have a new AD decide on the football coach at the end of the regular season." Sources said that several "disgruntled boosters and at least one prominent member" of the USC BOT have "pushed for Helton to be ousted this weekend if USC loses at Arizona State" (SI.com, 11/5).

NOT WHAT I'M HEARING: SBJ's Michael Smith referred to the InsideUSC story that Bohn may back out, and wrote, "Absolutely no one I spoke with today believes that story about Meyer." Smith: "I'm not totally sure why the hire is taking so long to consummate, but the idea that Bohn would pull out of the USC search because he couldn't hire Meyer is silly, said my sources in the business" (Michael Smith, SBJ College).
