Major League Football Saved Nearly $2 Million By Purchasing Equipment From Defunct Alliance of American Football

Major League Football, which plans to launch in spring 2020, has acquired equipment that was previously owned by the now defunct Alliance of American Football. The purchase includes football equipment, video equipment and medical supplies.

According to the league, MLFB saved nearly $2 million by purchasing the AAF-used equipment. This past July, former Arena Football League commissioner Jerry Kurtz paid $455,000 to purchase all of the AAF’s equipment, which has now been sold to Major League Football.

MLFB, which plans to open with six U.S.-based teams in May, will be the first publicly traded sports league in history. The league will hope for a better fate than the AAF, which lasted just two months into its inaugural season before declaring bankruptcy. One application MLFB will not buy from the AAF is its online betting technology, which was already purchased by MGM for $125,000.

"The AAF provided proof of concept for a spring league with attendance, viewership, and the successful transition by some players to the National Football League,” MLFB CEO Frank Murtha said in a press release.
