Franchise Notes

In Vancouver, Ed Willes notes CFL BC Lions Owner David Braley and GM Ed Hervey "figure to be back" next season after the team's 5-13 record this year, as Braley's efforts to "sell the Lions to a local ... have come up empty." Braley has "maintained there are several groups interested in buying the Lions, but he's also been telling that story for a number of years now." The "plain fact is Braley likes owning the Lions and with his improved health won't sell unless his price is met." As for a potential buyer, the group trying to install a CFL expansion franchise in Halifax has been "connected to the Lions" (Vancouver PROVINCE, 11/5).

MAKING A COMMITMENT: In Cleveland, Chris Fedor noted details of Cavaliers GM Koby Altman's contract extension "were not made public by the team, but it's believed to run through" the '23-24 season, "matching the length" of coach John Beilein's deal. Altman said, "They've invested a lot in me, to grow me as a leader and push me to get better, to learn more, to expand my horizons and that's been since Day 1." The deal means Altman "gets a chance to see his elaborate plan through" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 11/4).

NOW YOU SEE IT: In Chicago, Brian Sandalow noted the Fire held a seat preview event at Soldier Field on Saturday to continue the process of getting fans "more familiar" with the venue ahead of the team's move there next season. Supporters who were "used to SeatGeek Stadium's intimacy checked out their new views" at the NFL stadium. Fire President & GM Nelson Rodriguez said, "More than having the fans get to know the venue, which I think most of them do already, it's our chance to communicate with the fans in a much more personal way that I think reflects the direction of the club" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 11/3).
