Nets' Joe Tsai Continues To Explain View On NBA-China Situation

Nets Owner Joe Tsai is "still trying to explain himself" nearly a month after he attempted to describe the "anger Chinese people feel about perceived threats to China's territorial sovereignty because of the country's history of foreign occupation," according to Stu Woo of the WALL STREET JOURNAL. Tsai's Facebook post in the wake of Rockets GM Daryl Morey's pro-Hong Kong tweet "upset Americans who called Tsai a shill for Beijing's regime." Tsai said, "All I ask is for the critics to read my full post, let the facts sink in and reflect on what they would do if they had the same hurtful experience that Chinese people went through during those years of foreign invasion." Tsai added that his views "reflect that of many mainland Chinese people, saying that what began as a peaceful protest has been 'hijacked' by violent acts" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 11/2). YAHOO SPORTS' Vincent Goodwill wrote it is time for Morey to "come out of hiding, step forward and account for the storm he created." Morey's absence has been "too noticeable for too long." Goodwill: "He started this mess, and can't run from it." While it "isn't quite cowardly," it is "noticeable when an outspoken voice goes silent and an always present figure turns invisible." Sources said that Morey "hasn't been instructed not to speak on the matter by the NBA, and the Rockets have said the same thing" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 11/1).
