MLS Cup Final In Seattle Sells Out Amid Ticketing Issues

Sunday's Toronto FC-Sounders MLS Cup Final is a sellout after a "record 69,000-plus" tickets were purchased for the match at CenturyLink Field, which will make the crowd "the largest to attend a soccer match in Washington history," according to Jayda Evans of the SEATTLE TIMES. However, one hour after general public ticket sales began at 10:00am PT Friday, there were "despondent fans and horror stories about trying to purchase a seat." Fans shared experiences about "waiting in a queue for an hour to purchase tickets only to find none were available when they clicked to buy," and at one point, the Sounders' site "crashed." MLS allotted Toronto FC 3,000 tickets to "sell to its fan base," and the league "retained less for its own distribution." There is a "possibility to configure standing room-only space" to reach 70,000, but it is "unlikely any more can be packed" into the stadium. As the game approaches, the Sounders and MLS are "expected to announce designated viewing sites" (SEATTLE TIMES, 11/1). Sounders season-ticket holders were offered a presale opportunity on Oct. 31 (Sounders).
