New Hampshire Hoping To Control Region With Mobile Betting

Multiple Massachusetts sports betting bills have stalled since being filed in January, but neighboring New Hampshire is "only a couple of months away from being able to take wagers," according to Michael Silverman of the BOSTON GLOBE. On Tuesday, the New Hampshire Lottery Commission, which will "oversee sports betting, tipped its hand that Boston-based DraftKings is the favorite to handle sports betting on mobile devices and in retail locations" in the state. New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu said Massachusetts' "lack of action is our opportunity, and we're not going to miss it." Sununu: "We're going to capture a good part of this market, we're going to have one of the best products, if not the best product in the country, and they're just going to have to play catch-up to compete." Silverman notes nearby Rhode Island legalized sports betting last year, but New Hampshire's "mobile component should prove far more attractive than what's available there." In Rhode Island, bettors must "download an app, then go to one of the state's two casinos to have their mobile betting accounts activated." But in New Hampshire, using the DraftKings' "exclusive mobile sports book app, a bettor simply will have to be in the state" (BOSTON GLOBE, 10/31).
